The Take 2 Tell 5 campaign was created for people at risk of developing kidney failure. It’s especially designed for African Americans with kidney disease. The idea behind the program is to help raise awareness. By spending only two minutes for kidney disease testing and telling five friends and/or family members to get tested, it may help reduce or prevent kidney disease.

According to the National Kidney Disease Education Program (NKDEP), over 8 million Americans suffer from reduced kidney function and 400,000 require dialysis or a kidney transplant to live. In recognition of Kidney Awareness Month you are encouraged to seek testing, learn about treatment availability and prevention. You should not be in the dark about your health.

Early detection of chronic kidney disease is very important to reduce advanced complications. If your child has high blood pressure, which is a common symptom, it is important that you have them tested. Other causes of CKD in children include problems in the urinary tract, hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Your doctor is also a good source for information.
